Every ability, power, and intensity in FASERIP is described with a rank word and rank number. The rank word names the column on the Universal Table; the rank number drives the math (damage, weight lifted, healing, etc.).
The Advanced Set uses 18 canonical ranks, from Shift 0 (no ability) up through Beyond (un-measurable cosmic). All ranks below are from the Advanced Players Book (TSR6871) — canonical, not house rules.
| Rank | Abbr. | Number Range | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shift 0 | Sh0 | 0 | Absent — ability does not exist |
| Feeble | Fe | 1–2 | A baby, a sickly old person |
| Poor | Pr | 3–4 | Below average human |
| Typical | Ty | 5–7 | Average human |
| Good | Gd | 8–15 | Above average — competent |
| Excellent | Ex | 16–25 | Strong, capable — top of the bell curve |
| Remarkable | Rm | 26–35 | Olympic-class peak |
| Incredible | In | 36–45 | Beyond peak human |
| Amazing | Am | 46–62 | Powerful super-hero level |
| Monstrous | Mn | 63–87 | Top-tier super-power |
| Unearthly | Un | 88–125 | Beyond mortal — godlike |
| Shift X | X | 126–175 | Cosmic-tier — Thor's hammer-thrown |
| Shift Y | Y | 176–350 | Galactic-scale |
| Shift Z | Z | 351+ | Stellar-scale |
| Class 1000 | CL1000 | 1000 | Planetary (Galactus hungry, Adamantium) |
| Class 3000 | CL3000 | 3000 | Stellar-systems-scale |
| Class 5000 | CL5000 | 5000 | Cosmic (the Beyonder) |
| Beyond | B | ∞ | Pure narrative / un-measurable |
A character's ability is written as "Excellent (20)" — rank word + number. Either form is enough; the other can be looked up.
When the rules say "shift one column to the right," move one step right on this ladder. Shifts beyond Beyond don't apply — Beyond is the cap.
The Shift Y, Shift Z, Class 3000, Class 5000, and Beyond ranks are canonical Advanced Set additions over the 1984 Basic Set's ladder (which capped at Class 1000). They are not house rules — they appear in the Advanced Players Book (TSR6871). However, the canonical text notes that "Class 1000, 3000, 5000, and Beyond levels are not available to most heroes, but are used to define such powerful universal forces as Eternity and Galactus." Most player-characters never reach above Unearthly.
